MATLAB

Technical University of Liberec has a Campus-Wide License for MATLAB, Simulink, and add-on products. All faculty, researchers, and students may use these products for teaching, research, and learning. The license allows installation of the products on university-owned equipment as well as personally owned computers.

To fully use Campus-Wide License and all services connected to it you must associate your MathWorks account with the license.

See tutorial below for details on how to associate your account with your license.

About MATLAB and Simulink

MATLAB, the language of technical computing, is a programming environment for algorithm development, data analysis, visualization, and numeric computation. Simulink is a graphical environment for simulation and Model-Based Design of multi-domain dynamic and embedded systems. MathWorks produces nearly 100 additional products for specialized tasks such as data analysis and image processing.

MATLAB PORTAL: ACCESS TO MATLAB AND OTHER SERVICES

To access the license and services connected it to it you must go to MATLAB Portal of your university.

  1. Select Sign in to get started.
  2. Create a MathWorks account using your email address at (sub)domain tul.cz. If you already have such an account, simply Log in.

Your MathWorks account is now associated with the license. You can now proceed to:

Individual installation

Instructions for installing the individual licence on staff and student computers

The following installation procedure applies to staff and student individual licenses. Ask your Campus-Wide License administrator for details about classroom installations and other licensing options.

Download the Installer

  1. Go to MATLAB Portal for TUL.
  2. Select Sign in to get started.
  3. Create a MathWorks account using your email address at (sub)domain tul.cz. If you already have such an account, simply Log in.
  4. Go to the installer download page.
  5. Choose one of the supported operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and click the Download button (you can also download older versions here).

Installation

(see Step-by-Step installation instruction for details)

  1. Run the installer.
  2. Follow the prompts in the installer app
    • When prompted to do so, select the Academic - Total Headcount license labeled Individual.
  3. When you first launch the product, you will be prompted to log in to your MathWorks account. Once logged in, you can begin working with MATLAB.

Reactivating an expired license

Once a year, users of individual licenses will be prompted to verify the validity of their license. Users will be notified of the expiration of their license. To confirm the validity of their individual MATLAB license, you must update the license file using the activation client. You can start the activation client from the Help Menu -> Licensing -> Activate Software menu. If the license file has expired, the activation client will start the next time you try to start MATLAB. You can find detailed instructions on the MathWorks website.

Using MATLAB without installation - MATLAB Online

MATLAB Online allows instant access to MATLAB from a web browser without installation. You need to be linked to a license to use it. Use it simultaneously with the MATLAB Drive service (20 GB of storage space for file synchronization).

Getting Started - Interactive Online Courses

As part of the University-wide licence, you get access to a suite of online self-paced courses on a variety of topics. Courses are available, for example, through the MATLAB Academy website when you log in with your MathWorks account.

To get a comprehensive overview in a given area, recommended course walkthroughs - Learning Paths - are suggested. Courses can be interrupted and resumed at any time. Upon completion of the course / Learning Path, the participant will receive a certificate of completion (in the form of a pdf document or html link). Course progress can be shared with other users (e.g. teachers).

In the short introductory course MATLAB Onramp you can learn about the MATLAB environment and the basics of working in this environment. For teachers, the Teaching with MATLAB course introduces how to use MATLAB in the classroom.

MATLAB Copilot

Since v. R2025a, the MATLAB Copilot service - an AI assistant optimized for MATLAB - is available to users connected to MATLAB Campus-Wide licenses.

Other services included in the Campus-Wide license

  • MATLAB Grader - Create interactive, auto-graded course assignments with instant learner feedback.
  • MATLAB Mobile- Evaluate MATLAB commands, create and edit files, visualize data, and view results – all from your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
  • MATLAB Drive – Provides a common cloud-based storage location for your MATLAB files. Store up to 20 GB of files
  • MATLAB Parallel Server - for high-performance computing tasks on university clusters. Contact your Campus-Wide License administrator for further information.
  • MATLAB Web App Server - Share MATLAB apps and Simulink simulations as browser-based web apps
  • Polyspace - Test software and assess code quality
  • RoadRunner - Design 3D scenes for automated driving simulation
  • MATLAB Production Server - Integrate MATLAB algorithms into web and database applications
